My name is Petar Benković, I am International Chess Master, FIDE Trainer, National Chess Arbiter and founder of Chess club Horizont from Sremska Mitrovica. I was born on the 8th of May 1980 in Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia. In this city I spent all my childhood and finished schools. My first chess moves I learnt from my mother Emica at the age of 7 and this traditional game was very popular in the house of my grandfather. There was always chess board on the table and ready for the game. My grandparents and uncles were big chess funs and like a kid I played with them. The first chess tournament I played when I was 10 years old. As a boy, I was successful in tournaments. I became the champion of Vojvodina in several age categories, the champion of SR Yugoslavia U18 and two times U20 and played Junior European and World Championsips, Children chess Olympiad, etc. In senior category I won many open and round-robin tournaments, team club championships. I achieved one successful result on the World Youth Chess Festival in Oropesa del Mar, Spain 1998, where I finished on the 8th place in the World in category U18. My parents Ivan and Emica Benković supported me always in my chess activities and I am grateful to them for everything what they did for me.
